Twice a year, the Earth gives us a particular brand of cosmic reset. The Autumn Equinox is one of those points—where day and night meet in perfect balance and our days begin to shorten.
For thousands of years, cultures around the world treated the equinox as a sacred pause. It was a moment to acknowledge the harvest of the past season, and to prepare for a quieter stretch ahead. It was a time to turn inward slightly, to swap high activity for more restoration and reflection.
Rather than pushing through seasonal change, the equinox invites us to flow with it—and there’s something to be said for honouring and aligning ourselves with nature’s cycles. We’re made of the earth after all!
Consider this an invitation to recalibrate; to check in with your body and your pace to make the necessary shifts that bring (or keep you) into balance.

Autumn isn’t about stopping completely, but it will ideally involve moving with more awareness.
The equinox is the perfect time to notice where life might feel a little packed or chaotic, and to gently bring things back into alignment. Perhaps that means carving out quiet time in the morning before the world wakes up, swapping late-night scrolling for a cup of tea and a book, or simply allowing yourself to move through the day without trying to pack something into every moment.
Slowing down doesn’t mean doing less, it just means doing things more intentionally. Putting our phones down, looking out the train window, and being present with the sensory details that make our days feel so much richer.

Autumn energy can be deeply grounding, so here’s a chance to reconnect with practices that bring you back into your body.
Of course, nature is one of the best places to start. A bushwalk, sitting under a tree, or spending time near water can do wonders for the nervous system. The Earth is literally shifting seasons, and when we spend time in natural environments, our bodies can recalibrate too.
Grounding rituals like journaling, gentle stretching, breathwork, or lighting a candle in the evening (to mark the transition from day to night) will also do the trick. Another of our favourites is incense. Experiment with what floats your boat scent-wise, because when you find your favourite, it’s a game changer. Personal faves: Nag champa and Dragon’s Breath resin. These practices can become anchors for your day—containers to breathe and return to yourself.
Don’t underestimate the role your outfits can play here too. Autumn is for all things texture and comfort. Soft layers and fabrics can encourage you to slow down and stay present within your body. Plus, dressing with intention and choosing pieces that feel grounding, beautiful, and aligned with the season will shift your days in more ways than one.

As the weather cools, our bodies naturally crave different kinds of nourishment. Think warming meals, slow cooking, and flavours that feel grounding.
There’s plenty of research on the benefits of eating seasonally and choosing foods that support this transitional energy. Think: roasted vegetables, hearty grains, soups and herbal teas for a start.
And of course, there’s emotional and creative nourishment. If you feel called to spend more time reading, making art, journaling, or reconnecting with hobbies and friends that warm your heart—lean into it!
There’s something so liberating about allowing our days to feel a little slower, softer, and more intentional. The equinox reminds us that balance isn’t something we achieve once and maintain forever. It’s something we return to again and again, with the changing seasons of our lives.
